In 2003 and 2004, the internet was still rewiring itself. Napster had already fallen, Kazaa and the peer-to-peer era were filling the vacuum, and AOL was losing its grip as broadband and DSL replaced dial-up in American homes. People were building personal music libraries file by file, and synchronized lyrics had become a killer feature on portable players. iLyrics.net became the home for that community: a searchable database of pre-timed lyric files for iRiver players, a forum where contributors traded techniques, and tools like iLyrics Pro to help people make their own. We grew the library to more than 1,900 .snc files, shipped regular database updates, and supported the LRC format as the ecosystem expanded. It was built in the thick of the iPod era, when file formats, forums, and fan labor still shaped digital culture. The project was ultimately shut down by the RIAA and Harry Fox Agency.
